This one is a huge update to an old release of mine, that brings it out of the stone age and up to my current standards, and also gives it a new set of skins! Here’s what all was done-
*i created a new skin. now this release finally has the functionality of being able to switch between the various programs by pressing buttons on the skin, instead of having to dive into nebula’s menus. so that’s a nice improvement. thanks to max for allowing me to use one of his input VU meters, and he also gave the skin a final pass of polish, making a few tweaks to make it a little nicer.
*the envelope follower auto-wah bonus programs have been removed. but the source samples were re-configured to become new LFO programs instead.
*i made new LFO effect versions of the philco tone EQ programs. the treble control is modulated by an LFO, using one of multiple shapes you can choose from. i think this makes up for the envelope follower programs being removed. these work better, and there’s a lot more variety possible with this new set of LFO effects. they use the same programming foundation that i used in my update to my Yourei band-pass/notch release a little while back. these LFO effects have their own skin, which also includes the two effects mentioned in the previous entry (the samples that were used for the envelope follower). these are called ‘special’ 1 and 2 and feature a sweeping peak band working together with the treble control being modulated. all 5 of the effects you can use with the LFOs allow you to choose between 10 different LFO shapes. that’s 50 combinations to explore.
*all of the programs here, everything was rebuilt from the original tone sweep samples, allowing me to re-edit the impulses, which are now longer and more accurate. the frequency responses are more accurate because of my improved editing techniques. simple edits or lack of edits can cause the resulting frequency response to change and become more or less accurate to what was sampled.
*some combinations of positions of the bass/treble knobs resulted in inaccurate results in one of the main EQ/tone programs. i think maybe the wrong samples were being used in those cases but i’m not really sure what caused it. that’s now fixed.
*the programs were also ‘reprogrammed’, using updated settings in things like the program rate, the envelope follower settings, smoothing mode, and some other areas. the previous versions were over ten years old and I’ve learned a lot since then, so the ‘programming’ aspect of these effects is now to my current standards.
*cut out a lot of samples. the older versions just had an unnecessary excess of impulses in the ‘higher kern’ options. i didn’t know as much back then and now i know that a lot of those samples are simply never getting used. i won’t go into too much detail but mainly a lot of lower dynamic step samples in the harmonics can very safely be removed with nothing being lost. the programs load faster.
*removed the multiple kern amount choices that i used to offer. now there’s only one option.
*added 48 and 88.2khz versions of all programs, finally.
*added an alt version of the third EQ program. it sounds slightly different due to having slightly extended treble response.
*i’m pretty sure there were a few other changes that i’m not remembering, but it’s accurate to say that while the tone EQ programs still sound similar to how they did before, this release is overall very improved. ‘under the hood’ everything was completely rebuilt from the ground up.
*the manual was updated/largely redone to match the changes to the release.
